- (continued from previous page)of preparing the scallops, by which the straw was held in position. Scallops were made from pieces of sally rods about eighteen inches long. These rods were then split in two and the end of the parts pointed.
In olden times a piece of furniture called a "settle bed". It was so made that in the daytime it was somewhat like a garden seat, and could be used as a bed if required.
