    enemy was approaching. Also they used to pour hot, molten lead down a slit on the enemy. After one goes in the third gate one is in the court-yard. There is an old cannon there which can be seen also. One can get out to the battlements by going up stairs. There is an old well which has about twenty steps going down to it. There is a tunnel leading away from the well but no one ever went into it. Some say it is leading to Cahir Abbey, another ruin. On the outside of the Castle there is a cannonball stuck in the wall. It is said to have been put there by Cromwells army. Our gardens and fields around it.
