- Post Office and parish, 7 miles from Killenaule on the borders of Co. Kilkenny. The parish has a population of 3,143, the village 332. It is situated on the southern portion of the great coal field of Slieveardagh, worked chiefly by "The Mining Company of Ireland". The output of coal and culm for six months by this Company, as per last report, was 11,906 tons.
