  1. In the old times there were some very interesting funeral customs, chief of these being the caoiners. These were old women who used to come to the house where the corpse was and sit around the bed and keep on moaning and crying all the time until the person was buried. The cry begins on a low note rising up to a shriek which has an awful effect when you hear it for the first time.
