  1. About a century ago it was customary for all the neighbours to gather together at Mockler's Cross in Killerk district. They usually went into a farmhouse at the Cross to spend the night card-playing and talking. Once a certain one man stood up to go home about midnight and as he was about to leave the cock crew three times. All the other *"Cuairteoirs" present, asked him to stay until morning but he would not. They told him that the cock's crowing at night was a bad omen and that surely something would happen on his way home. He however left the house and had not gone far when he was killed by unknown men, for an unknown reason.
