- Mr. Tierney, Grove St., Roscrea gave me the following account of the cholera in Roscrea.
He said that some years after the famine the potatoe blight appeared again. He remembered to see three men digging in a garden all day and they only got one basketful of potatoes and most of those were black. "They would run from Roscrea to the Monastery if they saw a white potato in a ridge".
A cargo of wheat was sent from America to Ireland but it was sunk outside Cork .Stirabout Houses:
