  1. The big wind of 1839 affected the neighbourhood of Roscrea. One old woman said the whole family arose to pray. The servant girl went out to put the ducks into the fowl-house. Having done this she opened the kitchen door to come in. At the same moment a great blast of wind came in and blew a piece of the roof off the house.
