  1. In the olden times there were no creameries. The people then churned their cream in large churns. They were very superstitious on churning day. Anyone going into the house on that day had to lay his hand on the churn and work it. By doing so you could not take away their butter. The churns were made oak; some had handles; more had to be worked up and down.
