I live in the Townland of Curraghmore. Curraghmore is in the Parish of Boher and the Barony of Owney and Arra. The old people in this townland call the place by its Irish name - Cruac Mór - The big hill. Curraghmore is a hilly district. There are about twenty families in Curraghmore but there was a lot more in it in former years. Most of the people who are gone were evicted and emigrated to America and Australia. The latest evictions took place about fifty years ago. The Landlord then was William Poe.
The commonest name is Ryan. Long ago a part of Curraghmore was called Ryans Town because a great many of the families in that part were Ryan. There is still to be seen the marks where a Hedge-School was. This Hedge School was there until Boher School
