- We have four cows, eight bullocks, one hourse, two fat pigs and twenty hens at home. We have names on all the cows. The big grey one, Bawny White, head, ~Daisy, and Mackpie. When you are driving the cows in or out of a field you say "how, how, how". The cowhouse is a fine wide house with a channel at the wall to carry away the water. There are five bails in the cowhouse in which the cows are tied in when they are going to be milked. The cows are tied with soft ropes to stakes or bails. A wicked cow is tied with a rope from her head to her leg. The tyings are made from a sort of hair. They are made in Ireland. A hazel branch is often tied in the rafters of the cowhouse to bang them to the stock. St. Bennidicts medal is hung on a stake in the cowhouse to keep the cows from dying. I never heard of any stories told about millking. A horse is kept in a stable in Winter. he is foddered there. A horse must be shod regularly or he would get lame. The hair is clipped off the horse in the spring and then he is lively and light for the warm summer. My Grandfather had a horse and he drew(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
