  2. The local fairs are held in Cloughjordan and in Nenagh. The fairs are always held in towns. Buyers often transact business at farmers houses. During the foot and mouth outbreak previous to the great war fairs were often held secretly at crossroads. Our local fairs are held on the streets. There is a man for gathering toll at our local fair the amount is threepence. When an animal is sold luck money is given, this is called a luck penny. It is calculated according to the price of the beast. When the bargain is made the parties strike hands. When the animals are sold they are marked with raddle, or blue and sometimes tar, mud, or clipped the hair of on the (the) side.
