  1. Little boys go about on St. Stephen's Day looking for money to bury the wren They blacken their faces or wear "eye-fiddles" & put on old clothes of father or mother. They carry a wren bush with paper of many colours tied to it.
    Song: The wren, the wren, the King of all birds
    St Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze
    Altho' he is poor, his family is great
    Rise up, landlady, & give us a 'trate',
    Up with the kettle & down with the pan
    Give us our answer & off we'll be gone
    Money is gathered and divided equally among the three or four who go together.
