    In the loft near the chimney the hens were put to sleep in the thatched houses and of course they layed well on account of the heat. The old people here say that they were able to support their houses in Spring out of the profit they made from fowl.
    In large glass crocks long ago there was in each house a vinegar plant growing. Water & a little sugar were added occasionally.
