    dock (leave) leaf seated on an upturned egg stand there was a little wee man. His face was covered with grey whiskers and he was busily employed in making a little stool. To Tom's great surprise he was using his file for cutting nails. Beside him on the ground was a full set of shoe makers tools and a half made pair of boots. He was just lighting his pipe which was a chalk one when Tom Brazzil saw him.
    Tom took off his boots so that he would not hear him and crept up behind him and grabbed him by the throat. He then took off his hat and put him into it and pinned him by the whiskers with two safety pins on to the lining of his hat. He then went and got his sythe and went to cross the river but when he tried to cross it he found he could not jump it on account of the weight of the sythe. He laid down the hat with the little man in it and turned round to throw the sythe across. After throwing the sythe he went for the hat and to Tom's great surprise the little man was gone and he heard him
