  1. Once upon a time a certain man was saving hay with a friend who lived a few miles away.
    This man was coming home late and he had a 'pike' in his hand.
    When he came to the back lodge on the Trench estate he met a black dog running about.
    When he came near the dog he ran at him with the pike but the dog stayed where he was. He made another attempt to drive the animal away but the dog leapt and took the hat off the man's head.
    The man ran back to the house in fright and then the owner of the house went to the place where the dog was. They found the hat but no sign of the dog
