    chief of the O'Hanlons. Soon afterwards it was taken by the O'Briens of Thomond, who kept it for a few years, then it was taken by the Geraldines, finally was taken by Captain Raleagh who granted it to Sir William Courtenay with whom it remained, until the fall of the Geraldines.
    The Castle is about sixty feet in height and it is built on a square base. Inside you could yet reach the top by a stone staircase. From 1640 to the present day Glenquin fell into disuse, and has not been occupied since.
