“About sixty years ago, a man, a native of Raheenagh went to Newcastle West to get his boots repaired.”
(continued from previous page)enough for the man the dykes were shallow. The houses were scarce, so he decided to call to the next house he'd meet but the owner of the house refused his request to open the door. The monster was still on the road and he travelled along as best he could. The next house he met was off the road that lead to his home. He decided to change his course so that it might be possible to get rid of his disagreeable companion. As he turned off his road the monster stayed behind. When he went to the door it wasn't locked and he went in. The occupants of the house were sleeping, and he decided he would stay there until morning, and to pass the time away he took out his pipe from his pocket to have a smoke. as he lit his pipe with a sod of turf that was in the hearth he discovered a Bull Dog lying in the corner of the house. This animal was considered the most dangerous of his kind in that vicinity so that he did not consider himself safe in the house. Once more he started for home and he did not meet the monster any more.
