to Stephen's Rock near Liscarroll and hanged. Herlihy has three grand-nieces alive still. (Mrs. David Noonan of Gortnascregga, Freemount is me) The Widow Cowhey's daughter married James Hastings. There was a song made about the trial and hanging. This is part of it:-
"For the strealing of a dame
The Widow Cowhey was her name
She set my heart on flame
She was the dearest maid to me."
The remainder of Widow Cowhey's life was a misery to her.
