- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Potatoes are grown on our farm. There is a quarter of an acre under potatoes.
Sometimes the amount varies. My uncle always prepares the ground. The ground is never manured before it is turned up. The potatoes are sown in ridges. First the ground is ploughed up in the shape of a ridge and then it is broken up with a grubber and then it is manured and the potatoes are put in with a spade. It is an Iron plough that is used. Wooden ploughes were used a long time ago but there is no one left now. There is no spade made locally but they are bought.
People help each other in sowing potatoes. Champions, British queens, and orrange-banners, are the potatoes that are used. Champions are the best grown of them.- Bailitheoir
