- This is how candles were made in olden times. When cows were killed the fat was taken out of them. Then it is put down on the fire to be melted it is taken up and poured into a mould. A stitch of woollen thread is placed in the middle of it. It is then left until it is hard and when it is hard it is taken out and the candle is then made.
