  1. In olden times people used very, very little tea. It was considered a great luxury at Christmas, and at Easter, and in many other occasions, such as stations, wakes, and funerals,
People lived chiefly on potatoes, skimmed milk and oaten meal and Indian meal porridge. There was very little bacon used, only cabbage or other vegetables boiled in water, and dressed in lard, dripping, and sometimes cream. The people were far stronger and healthier and lived longer, than the present generation.
