An portach is called the bog because there are six big banks of turf in it. One corner of this bog is very wet and marshy. It is said that one of the Danes long ago lost his life in it.
There is another field called páirc na ceant. It is called this name because it was a field which the Landlords had for holding and auctioning the cattle for to get the rent.
There is another field called páirc áird. It is called this field for it is a very high field. It is the highest point in the district. It is about 650 feet above sea level. There is a very large stone in this field and there is a Sapper's mark in it. You can see seven parishes from this field, namely, Boherbue, Kiskeam, Ballydesmond, Knocknagree, Gneevequilla, Cullen, and Millstreet, and on a nice clear day you can see the lower lake of Killarney.(continues on next page)- Collector
