are the general varieties grown in this country. At the present day the Golden Wonders are supposed to be the best table potatoes.

  2. Nearly all the people in this district set an acre or two of potatoes each year.
All the people set them in drills, as they are much easier than ridges. A plough is always used for preparing the ground. Wooden ploughs were used in former times but there as none left now.
Nearly all neighbours help each other, in planting the potatoes, by putting them in.
After the potatoes are planted, the drills are rolled, and then the earth is raised up. It is left in this way until the weeds are seen growing, and then it is scuffled.
The potatoes are dug with machines now, called diggers. This digs out a drill at a time and puts them in a line, so that it is very easy to pick them.
