- The wren the wren the King of all birds.
St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze.
From bush to bush, from tree to tree
at Drishane Castle he broke his Knee.We hunted him up and we hunted him down
at Kilmeedy Castle we Knocked him down.
We decked him up in a holly tree
A bunch of laurels at his Knee
A bunch of roses at his head
We expect something to bury the dead.I have a box under my arm
twopence or threepence will do it no harm
Those who fill it of the best.
Up in heaven their souls shall rest.
Those who fill it of the small
Do not agree with the wren-boys at all.
