- A popular belief is that "The Liss" in the townland of Ballinabuaille is a very mysterious place. Little now remains of the former structure and one can only trace the outline of a circular fortlike structure. The surroundings lead one to believe that this curious ruin has got eerie connections. There is a curious air of ghostly presence about it. Briars and various mosses cover the field nearby and it is with the greatest difficulty that one is admitted to a close examination of this "haunt of fairies." In the centre is a deep hole.
Few indeed have ventured to fathom its depths lest they should be carried off by the fairies. The story goes that multitudes of these tiny fairies have been seen at night about the "Liss" and that they dance in the moonlight. Lights have been seen there and it is said that such lights may lead a person into the power of the fairies.
Stories are told of brave men who have gone down into the dark hole and to their astonishment a beautiful palace opened up before their eyes. But the fairies tried to keep them(continues on next page)- Collector
