  1. There are about five forges in this district, There are three forges in Ballydehob, one near Dunbeacon, and a couple near Schull.
The names of the smiths in Ballydehob are, James Driscoll, and John Sullivan. The name of this smith in Dunbeacon is Dan Hayes.
The forges are small and are slated. The forge in Schull is situated near a big stream but some of the others are not. Outside the forge in Schull there is a small platform of cement, and there is a hole in the centre. It is round in shape, and is used when putting bands on wheels. The box of the wheel is placed in the hole, and then the wheel is very steady.
There is one fireplace in each forge, and is situated near the end wall usually.
A big platform of stones is built, and the fire is placed on it. Coal and turf is used in all the forges.
