    townland are mostly thatched but the newer houses are slated.
    Beside our townland is Lough Ree and the river Shannon to the town of Athlone.
    In olden times the houses wee more numerous and the population was bigger but when the famine came a good many people died of hunger and many more emigrated to America. Their houses are now in ruins and their chimneys are homes for the Jackdaws.
