  1. The usual time of the year people get married is Shrove or before Advent. Shrove lasts from Epiphany until Shrove Tuesday. Old people say its right to get married in May, July or the fourth day after Christmas Day. It is said it is unlucky for two sisters to marry two brothers. It is also said if its women that makes a match that that match is unlucky. The people never got married in the houses only at the church. The women long ago wore shawls getting married. They only payed fourpence for a ring. The people make matches
