  1. There are many tales told in the district about strong men, who threw great big stones long distances.
    Most of these stones are said to be thrown by FIonn Mac Cumhaill.
    There is a stone in a field in the townland of Gurranes and it is said that it was thrown by FIonn Mac Cumhail from South Ring near Clonakilty It is about five or six tons in weight.
    It is situated near a well and the marks of five fingures are stamped on it. Long ago some people tried to remove it into a ditch near by. They had it brought a few yards when it fell
