- There are many places and hills and valleys and fields which have old Irish names. In our district there is "Páirc fhada the long field Páirch mhór" which means the big field. "Páirch tobair" the well field. "Páirch bán" the white field. "Cnoch fhada" the long hill. There is a deep spot in the Arigideen river called "Poll-na gcapall. It is said that there was a great flood in Arigideen river which flows through the pool and there was a mare and foal in a field beside the river and the foal was taken away by the flood. The mare swam after him and she caught him at the mouth of the pool. Last summer there was a man drowned in this pool. Páirch Thadhg Ó Régáin means Tim Regan's field. Páirch dubh the black field.
