  1. Shrovetide or Inid.
    The period from Christmas to Ash Wednesday is known as Shrove or Inid. During this time all marriages used take place long ago. The last day of Shrove is called Shrove Tuesday or Máirt Inide, and nearly everybody has pancakes for supper on that night.
