    They couldn't first believe it, then they said the man was crazed,

    And put the boycott on him, and his innocent family,
    ___________
    Twas then the holy horror of his sin on him came down,
    No smile to meet, no hand to greet in country or in town,
    His family went agin' him, all except his lovin' wife,
    And swore they'd never own him to the last day of his life.
    ___________
    So he sat and wrote a letter, and sent it to the League,
    Sayin' how he had repented and asking that the plague,
    Of the boycott be took off him, and ending in this strain.
    ___________
    I'll keep the farm no longer, but will give it back again"
    Oh! when the people heard the news, they gathered in a crowd;
    The boys took out their banners, and beat their drums aloud;
    And there was songs and speeches, and dances light and gay,
    Around the flaming bonfires that night in old Loughrea.
