Date:- 29.10.37It is said that to this very day there is hidden treasure in a field in the downland of Portahard and near the village of Frenchpark.
Near that place there is a well and to this day it is called the Danes well.
Every night about twelve o'clock there are lights and fairies seen about that place. The people say that it was the Danes that placed the treasure there. One time it is said that the people of that district gathered together and dug for the treasure but they failed to get it.
They said that a black cat is minding it and that no human being can carry it off.
No one knows what the treasure consists of but some people say that it consists of either gold or precious stones.- Collector
