The poor servant never went to bed that night, but sat at the fire till morning came. She opened the door and looked out and there she saw the horse at the stable door without his rider and the saddle all covered with blood. She called the neighbours and they all set out to look for him and arriving at the fatal spot found him stretched out in ditch and his body in a pool of blood. They brought him home and waked him in his own house and buried him in the village graveyard.
