  1. The famine lasted about two years. Stirabout was the people's food.Then the English Government stopped sending it in order to starve out the Irish people altogether.They died in hundreds, Some of them had to leave their homes and go to other countries. The potatoes got black and rotted away.The stirabout was given out in Rosenallis. It was given out in pint tins and quart tins according to the family.
