    There was an old school in the Graveyard in Gowran. The chief subjects they taught was English.The teachers were strangers and very cross at that time. There was no Irish taught in the school at that time. None of those schools can be seen nowadays.

    There was a hedge school in Gleann cám and it was taught in a farmers farmers dairy. Miss Cloudd taught in and she was a strange she came from Donegal the teacher always slept in the farmers house. Irish (was spoken) was not taught in the schools and all the writing was done on slates and the only subjects were taught was English Geography and Arithmetic the children were always
