    should borrow anything on the first of May as it is unlucky. Evil minded people used to skim the wells on the first of May and anyone who would use the water from a "skimmed well" for making butter would have a very small butter yield from the milk whilst the person who skimmed the well would have his own along with what the neighbours lost
