  1. Saint Brigid was born in Faughart near Dundalk during the fifth century. According to tradition she had red hair.
    In her youth she served as a dairy maid for her father who was a chieftain in Leinster. She had to take care of twelve cows. When she made the butter she divided it into thirteen parts, one large part and twelve lesser parts. She did this in honour of Christ and the twelve apostles. The large part she gave to the poor and the strangers.
    Hundreds of stories are told about her generousity. One day when she had given away all the butter that she had in the dairy her father came to visit her because he knew of her generousity. He asked her for a hamper of butter. Brigid knew that there was no butter so she went into the dairy praying and if all the hampers
