  1. If a child had a sore throat or the mumps they would get a griddle and a stocking. Then they filled the stocking up with salt and put it on the griddle. They put fire under it and left it there until the salt is roasted. Then they put it around the person's neck as hot as they could bear it. When the salt gets cold it is taken away and buried.
