  2. I have heard the following story in connection with a poor scholar named John Fox, a native of Co. Leitrim. It appears he was in the Co. Kerry at the time. He was staying in a house where a churn was being made one day. The cream could not be converted into butter. John Fox got a woodbine twig and bound the two ends of it together. He then placed it round the churn, beat it down all round. As itnwas being tightened round the churn, the screams of an approaching woman were heard. She was
