    B. This man, Richard, wanted to get married. The priest would not marry him except he'd furnish a reference from the father of his first wife who was dead. The father-in-law would not give it to him. He met Owen Ruadh O'Sullivan, the poet, (of Meentongues) and told him about the matter. Owen promised to write the recommendation and sing the father-in-laws name to it if he got the half pint of whiskey which this man, Richard, had in his pocket. The man denied having the half pint, but Owen was certain he had it. The latter, however, wrote the reference, which was as follows:-
Do tháinig chugham Risteárd ar mhuin ghearráin ná raibh díol as .
Do mhairbh sé Siobhán (his first wife) agus do dhurbh sé a cliatháín

Agus ba minic í ar féarán ag a muinntir.
Nílid aige corcán, slige ná sliogán
ná fiú an bothán go bféadfadh a bhean luige ann.
Agus a athair Thomáis, ná ingann ná bean do Risteárd,
    Bí féin fuilingeach innte.
