Sometimes when there is good demand for cattle the buyers come out the road on a fair morning and buy some cattle at a cross of some place like that, and sometimes the week before the fair they go to the famer's houses and buy some cattle and this is still done.
We don't know anywhere that fairs used to be held that are not held now. In the towns some of the fair is held on the street, and some of it is held on the cattle green.
There is a special place for each thing. The heifers and the springing cows are sold in the cow-green.
Then young calves and bullocks are sold in the street beside the cattle-green. The horses are sold in a street of their own(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
