  1. (continued from previous page)
That the Tanist of Clones in Lough Ozona was drowned
A month had been given to mourning and grief
And Clan Boylan now gather to choose a new chief
By hundreds and thousands to Clones they tread
From hillside and valley in many a group
From where Lisnaroe in its soft beauty smiles
From the green shore of Lough Oona of tales
From where the weird cave of Shanmulla descends
And from where Ballintoppin its broad field extends
From where Carrivetragh its green bosom leaves
And Cloncarn looks out from its veil of green leaves
From Munnilly’s hills and Cloncallick’s deep woods
And where Cumber looks down upon Finn’s river floods
Cappa of guests sends its true hearted men
And Garran its kierns from its deep-wooded glen
In quick-moving groups, Clan Boylan now pours
From Shankill and Granshaw and fair Analore
But when at the Castle of Clones they arrive
Dark Mossa alone of his race is alive
Of the chiefs of O’Boylan he only is found
And they chose him Tiernach instead of the drowned
That night the dark Mossa lay down a proud man
Tiernach of Clones and head of his clan
