  1. Long ago candles were made in the people's houses. First some strong sheaves of rushes were cut and peeled. A strip of green was left on each side of the rush so as to keep it firm. Then a small pot called a grisot was got, and pig's lard was put into this. The rushes were dipped in this and left to dry.
