    For a land that's far away.
    Even though it's paved with golden stones,
    A leanbh grádh mo chroidhe,
    Don't dare to leave this native isle,
    So stay at home with me.
    Dear mother don't discourage me,
    I'll be back on Patrick's Eve,
    With lots of golden treasure,
    So I humbly beg your leave.
