  1. (no title) (continued)

This story was told to me by my mother Mrs E. Finnegan. It happened in Co Carlow over thirty years ago.

    (continued from previous page)
was the custom of this man to cross a stile on his way home from work every night. He used to tell his friends that he saw a ghost on this stile. One of his pals made it up with the others that he would act the ghost the following night as none of them believed the man's story.
It was on the next night as this man was coming home from work as usual that he saw two ghosts on the stile. Hah, hah, he exclaimed I see there are two of you there to night. The actor looked beside him and saw the real ghost. He rushed off with himself in terror. Hullah, Hullah, the little fellow after the big fellow exclaimed the man aloud. No sooner had the words reach the terrified man's ears then he looked behind him and saw the ghost following him but it soon disappeared.
When he reached home he went to bed immediately, from which he never rose again. He died within two weeks time.
