  1. There was a man, named Mr. Mc Vie, living in the town of Sligo. He and his wife were invited to a wedding in Aughamore. The night was very calm and they decided to go by boat. When they were half way up the lake Lough Gill a great storm arose, and everyone in the boat would have been drowned only that the man took off his silt scarf and threw it into the lake, saying ''Here Lady of the Lake, take these ribbons for your hair''. Immediately the storm ceased and the lake became quite calm.
    The first motor boat on Lough Gill was named the ''Lady of the Lake'' One day the real Lady of the Lake appeared to the Captain and told him to change the name as there was just one Lady of the Lake and that was she. The Captain changed it to ''Maid of the Sea''.
    The bell of the Sligo Abbey was thrown into Lough Gill during the time of the Penal Laws
