  1. A man and a parson were going along the road one day. On their journey they had to cross a river. When they got to the river the man said "I will put you up on my back and carry you across the river. " The parson got up on the man's back and sat there. As they were crossing the stream the man stumbled across a stone. "Well ins't the devil" said the parson. The man didn't give him time to finish but said "All right if he is I'll soon throw him off and he threw the parson into the river and drowned him.
