  1. Tarbert parish was well organised for Catholic Emancipation. The Clare Election more than the actual winning of Emancipation appealed to them. They considered the Clare people superhuman patriots because they had the courage to vote against their landlord.
    There was a continuous line of Protestant mansions along the Shannon shore of the parish. The landlords of the district were particularly tyrannous. Leases were very few among the Catholics, and
