During the Penal Days the people were forbidden to practise their religion, and the priests who were found were martyred, Churchrs were built in lonely places and most of them had thatched roofs. There was a church situated long ago about a mile west of Tarbert. The road that was leading to the church was called "An Bóthar Bán" ("The white Road")
